                          ** The VTAM Command **

The   VTAM   command   lets  you  control  multiple jobs from your terminal. 
From the VTAM command input  screen  you  may   acquire/release   jobs   and
specify control options related to the jobs you currently "own".

Using  VTAM,  you  are   in  either  command  mode   (the  "STATUS"  screen) 
or connected  mode  (talking   to  your  "current"  job).    If  you  are in
connect  mode   and  wish  to  return  to command  mode,  press  the  escape
key OR  the alternate escape key.

The "STATUS" screen  you  see  in command mode is  dynamically updated while
you  are  entering  commands or deciding  what  to  do  next.    A  detailed
explanation of the display  fields,  all  the  commands, and hints on  using 
VTAM  will  be found in the VTAM USERS GUIDE.

Following is a summary of the more common VTAM commands:




J        JOB name       acquire a job for your use.  if you already own
O                       the job it is made "current".
B
         RUNON          turns on run-on for the current job. (D)
C
O        NORUNON        turns off run-on for the current job.
M
M        VCRT           turns on virtual screen for the current job. (D)
A
N        NOVCRT         turns off virtual screen for the current job.
D
S
         NOJOB name     release a job so someone else may use it.

         GET1           non-specific job acquire.






L        LOG name       open a log file for the current job.
O
G        MOVIE name     open a log file with crt info for the current job.

         INPLOG name    open an input-only log file for the current job.
C
O        IMAGE          turns on image-mode logging.
M
M        NOIMAGE        turns off image-mode logging.  (D)
A
N        NOLOG          closes the log file for the current job.  (D)
D
S        PIC name       writes the current jobs virtual screen to a file.
                        name is optional, if not specified a unique name
                        will be generated.






M        ESC  x         re-defines the alternate escape character.  (^G)
I
S        GO             same as pressing the escape key.  useful with
C                       'STACK'ed commands.

         PCHR x         re-defines the picture request character.  (^_)
C
O        PREFIX xxxx    re-defines controlled jobs picture prefix.
M
M        TCHR x         re-defines the toggle request character.  (^])
A
N        TOGGLE         switches between acquired jobs (makes a different
D                       one 'current').
S
         BELL           notify you if a controlled job needs attention.  (D)

         NOBELL         turns off BELL option, makes VTAM 'quiet'.




M        ABORT          reset current job to monitor prompt (dot).
O
R        AMOS ...       TEMPORARY return to AMOS/L dot prompt.  allows you
E                       to return with all your virtual crts still there.

         ATTACH name    Attaches your real terminal to the specified job,
C                       leaving VTAM running detached.  Later you could
O                       use the AMOS/L "ATTACH" command to re-attach your
M                       terminal to VTAM.
M
A        KILL           sends ^C to the current job.
N
D        FORCE ...      sends rest of line to current job, sets "RUNON".
S
         HELP  ...      display the file specified (probably a .HLP file).

         QUIT           return to AMOS command level.
